Celebrating Our Fourth Valentine’s Day

CELEBRATING  OUR  FOURTH  VALENTINE’S  DAY

When I stopped to think how many Valentine’s Days I’ve celebrated  with my husband, FOUR sounded like too many! I seriously had to stop and count each one! It’s unbelievable that it’s been that long already! You know they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun!” And that sure has been the case.

LOOKING AT THE PROGRESS BRINGS GRATITUDE

I never know how many of you are aware of how it came to be, that I would remarry in my late 50’s. It happened a few years after CHIC OVER 50 began. When people ask me about my blog, about my family, about my husband, etc., I realize more and more how it’s all connected. One thing has led to another and to another. It’s always good to take a look back every now and then and see the progress. It makes me feel so grateful.

My marriage to my new husband (yes I still think new)  has been very STRESS-FREE, which I didn’t know what that felt like before. Not living with all of that day to day has been wonderful, and now it’s all I know. Is my marriage perfect…. of course not. But it’s pretty close. There isn’t a marriage anywhere that is perfect, and I’m not sure it’s meant to be. I believe spouses are meant to balance each other out and make one another better.

HOW WE KEEP EACH OTHER BALANCED

Never in my life have I felt more like my daddy. He was a workhorse. He worked and worked and hardly ever sat down to just relax. My mom would get so frustrated by him at times. I now find MYSELF DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. If there’s any one thing I would be most grateful for with my husband, is that he has helped me slow down. He is extremely laidback, and it has rubbed off…. probably not as much as he’d like, but he’s definitely kept me more balanced.

Living with a retired spouse, while I’m just beginning, has been a challenge to keep the two balanced. He wishes I wouldn’t work so much, but the nature of this job DOESN’T let you slow down. I love my work, but have tried to be very conscientious about our time together. How do you all keep a healthy balance in your marriages?

Isn’t that what marriage is all about, helping each other be better humans? I’m only in to mine two and a half years now. I’m praying that we will have many more ahead. I see these older couples walking hand in hand and it just warms my heart. I hope that is me and him some day!

I’m looking forward to doing something special tomorrow in celebrating our fourth Valentine’s Day together. We like simple. In fact that is another thing that he has taught me more about….. how to be simple. Watch me on my Instagram stories and I’ll post a snippet or two of our day! HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY everyone!!!!

  1. I wish for the two of you, a happy and long life together. My husband and I have been married, going on 39 years, this May. He retired early, at age 52, and we have been traveling the world, ever since. Having more time to spend together has been bliss. When we were both working, we were like two ships passing in the night. He worked nights, for the postal service, and I worked as a teacher, during the day. Thanks for sharing your story.

    1. Christina I’m SO HAPPY for the two of you. You worked hard to get to where you are. ENJOY every second of it and SAFE TRAVELS! Where are you going next? XO
