WHY I TAKE MOVEMENT BREAKS THROUGHOUT THE DAY
Like so many women who work online, I spend hours sitting at my desk running my business. Between writing blog posts, editing reels, answering emails, and creating content, it’s easy for me to stay in one spot far too long. And let me just say, my body feels it when I do.
Over the past year or so, I’ve completely changed the way I approach fitness. First, I should mention that these movement breaks are in addition to my regular workouts. I make it a priority to move my body every morning. However, once I’m back home and sitting at my desk working, it’s surprisingly easy for hours to pass without getting up.
That’s why I’ve started taking several quick movement breaks throughout the day. These simple exercises help wake up my body, boost my energy, and keep me feeling more mobile and less stiff after long periods of sitting. Even though they only take a few minutes, they’ve made a noticeable difference in how I feel.
THE FIVE MOVES I DO SEVERAL TIMES A DAY
This routine only takes a few minutes, but it makes such a difference in how I feel physically and mentally.
1. Light Jumps
I start with 10 light jumps to get my blood flowing and boost my energy. This instantly helps me feel more awake, especially during long workdays.
2. Knee-to-Elbow Crunches
Next, I do 10 knee-to-elbow crunches. I count one rep as a right knee crunch and a left knee crunch. These engage my core, improve balance, and help loosen up tight hips from sitting too long.
3. Standing Body Twists
Standing twists are one of my favorites because they keep my spine mobile and my upper body feeling flexible. Plus, they help release stiffness I feel after sitting at my computer.
4. Hop Squats
Squats are a must for me. They strengthen my legs and glutes while helping me maintain strength for everyday life. I truly believe staying strong matters more and more as we age.
5. Skater Steps
Finally, I finish with skater steps, one rep both right and left step. These help challenge my balance, coordination, and stability while adding a little fun movement into the mix.

SMALL MOVEMENTS MATTER
I think sometimes we believe movement (I used to be one of them!) has to be intense or time-consuming to count. However, I’ve found that small moments of movement throughout the day can AND DO have a huge impact. This simple routine helps me stay energized, limber, and feeling my best….. especially on those long desk-work days!
