MASTERING THIS TREND IN PANTS

I’m always up for a fun trend. Some might take me a minute to get to, like for example the biking shorts. I never did get into it…. NO WAY! This trend, the BARREL STYLE PANT is one I really had to make work for me. I think they are interesting, and with my particular shape (muscular legs :)), I think they really suit me. However, I tried them out and decided NOPE, they just weren’t working!

These retro-inspired pants are making waves in the fashion scene, and I think in 2024, we’ll be seeing a lot more of them. Exactly what are they? These are fitted at the waist and through the hips, and then balloon out somewhere mid-thigh with a curved, wide leg. This particular pair I’m showing you here, are not quite as exaggerated as some. They are PERFECT for my small frame, and allow me to wear this trend, but in a less extreme way.

THIS IS HOW I MADE THEM WORK FOR ME

An important part in styling these pants is choosing the right top, shoes, and accessories to go with them. Think of them as a TREND. I always/mostly pair a trend with something on the simple side. You’ll see here, that I’ve broken those rules slightly, by wearing the gold platforms and socks! But you should also know, that’s what I do best….. always finding a way to be EXTRA and NOT ordinary!!

By choosing what pairs best with them for your figure and style, will change your whole mindset. Suddenly I LOVED them! Now I want to get THESE in EVERY color, and they do come in seven colors. These however, are not quite as extreme as some of the other Barrel styles out there.

Some other ideas in maintaining an age-appropriate aesthetic, would be a crisp button-down shirt, or a blazer. What about a simple cashmere sweater, and a pair of classic pumps, or even a pretty turtleneck? All would be perfect. I have paired mine with a solid colors, and fairly simple shapes.

In conclusion….. mastering this trend in pants is doable and can certainly be worn by midlifer’s! Don’t be afraid to HAVE FUN with this trend. There are so many ways to style them and wear them age-appropriately. Whether you’re going for a casual vibe or a more polished look, there are no limits! Now……. how would YOU wear them?
