HOW TO BUY CLOTHES YOU’LL ACTUALLY WEAR

how to buy clothes you'll actually wear

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about shopping is this…. the best purchases are usually the ones I reach for over and over (example above). I think many of us buy clothing for an imaginary version of our lives instead of the life we actually live every day. The clothes that go untouched in my closet are the ones I purchased for a life I don’t live very often….. who’s with me?

Now, before I buy anything I ask myself a few simple questions. Does it fit my lifestyle? Can I style it multiple ways? Do I already own pieces that work with it? And most importantly… do I FEEL GOOD when I put it on? If the answer is yes, then it’s probably something worth buying.

These days, I want my wardrobe to feel versatile, comfortable, and easy to wear. I’m so much more aware of how everything will fit into my life. The trendy pieces that sit in my closet untouched….. totally stress me out!

Instead, I look for items that work hard for me like…..

CUTE ATHLEISURE SETS

COMFORTABLE SHOES

COMFORTABLE AND FLATTERING JEANS

COLORFUL ACCESSORIES

HANDBAGS THAT ARE PRACTICAL

LIGHTWEIGHT LAYERING PIECES

These are the things I end up wearing 80% of the time, and over time, they are the ones that become the best value. By the way…. did you know that you wear 20% of your clothing 80% of the time. Definitely something to think about!

The same idea applies to beauty purchases. I love products that simplify my routine while still making me feel put together. Some of the most-used in my drawer are this TINTED MOISTURIZER, hydrating LIP MASK, non-smudge MASCARA, LIPGLOSS, and this HAIR PASTE. And when it comes to skincare, it’s the same. I have a great DAY MOISTURIZER, NIGHT MOISTURIZER, DAY SERUM, RETINOL product, and CLEANSER. And THIS is the skincare line I consistently use. It was introduced to me by my stepdaughter who is an aesthetician. I absolutely LOVE it!

At this point in my life, I care more about how something makes me FEEL rather than the latest trend. But trust me….. I do look at trends and always consider whether they’ll work for me. If I put something on and instantly feel more confident, comfy, and like me…. that’s a good sign that it’ll work. When you focus on buying pieces you genuinely love and actually wear, and products you go to over and over again, getting ready for the day becomes so much easier, and most definitely a lot more fun.
