EXPLORING ST. AUGUSTINE FLORIDA

Exploring St. Augustine Florida
WITH MY GAL-PALS ON THE FORT WALL IN ST. AUGUSTINE

I hadn’t ever heard of St. Augustine. It sits along the northeastern coast of Florida and has the title of being the oldest city in the United States. Recently, I had the pleasure of going on a trip to this charming destination with five of my sweetest girlfriends. Our goal? To experience the rich culture, vibrant atmosphere, and delightful experiences that St. Augustine has to offer, and then to share it with you!

ONE OF THE MOST CHARMING STREETS IN ST. AUGUSTINE

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the city’s old-world charm. There is quite a unique feeling of rich history in St. Augustine. The cobblestone streets reminded me of Europe. They led past picturesque buildings with colorful facades and wrought-iron balconies. Everywhere I turned, there was a something more to see.

PATIO AREA AT THE ST. GEORGE INN

The ST. GEORGE INN was our home for the four nights we were there. The inn, located in the historic district, was the perfect blend of old-fashioned charm. The staff were personable and helpful…. even watching out for my new suitcase I ordered through Instacart! That’s another story! LOL!! My room was cozy and reminded me a lot of a cabin. Every morning there was breakfast served in the cafe just off the main courtyard….. always fresh fruit, yogurt, even breakfast sandwiches. This was where we gathered each morning as well as late afternoon for cheese, crackers, and wine for my girlfriends.

MUSICIANS WERE EVERYWHERE

One of my favorite things about St. Augustine, was the live music playing everywhere. We got to listen to musicians playing nearly all day long at the St. George Inn. But aside from that, there were many other places throughout the city, where you could hear different musicians playing. This really did add so much to the atmosphere and charm of the city!

FLAGLER COLLEGE

FLAGLER COLLEGE in St. Augustine is known for its picturesque campus and rich history. Once a luxurious hotel, the Ponce de Leon Hotel, it was transformed into a college campus in the late 1960s. The Spanish architecture, intricate details, and lush courtyards make it a standout among other historical buildings in the city. It’s so much like a museum with its grand rotunda and intricate murals, as well as a grand clock (pictured below). The college’s commitment to academic excellence and its stunning surroundings make it a unique and inspiring place to study and visit.

Right across the street from Flagler College, is the LIGHTNER MUSEUM. It actually was once the luxurious Hotel Alcazar and bought by Otto C. Lightner in 1948, who turned it into the museum. It really does give you a glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It takes you on a fascinating journey through America’s past. You’ll find stunning architecture, extensive collections of fine art, including porcelain, glass, as well as Victorian-era costumes.

While you are exploring St. Augustine Florida, you don’t want to miss out on the LIGHTHOUSE on Anastasia Island is a historical landmark built in the 29th century, and stands as a testament of the city’s heritage. Visitors can climb its stairs for amazing views of Matanzas Bay, and Anastasia State Park. I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get to do that climb, as it was closed on the day we were there. I for sure won’t miss it on my next visit. It’s absolutely beautiful!

Exploring St. AUGUSTINE FLORIDA

Initially I was skeptical about going to the SALT SPA in St. Augustine. It proved to be an ah-ha moment for me in wellness. We had our own private orientation from the owner Beata, whose passion is contagious. Salt therapy originated in Poland, where a holistic approach is an integral part of regular health care, and a way of life for thousands of people. The main room has a salt floor, walls and ceiling, and is equipped with reclining chairs to relax in, all while breathing in the salt-infused air. This is good for anyone with respiratory problems, rehabbing a physical injury, it can even help with migraines! This really was fascinating to me…. the whole idea of this being helpful for headaches. More to come on that.

SALT IS LIFE AND A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO MY MIGRAINES

One of the best parts about a vacation, is indulging in the local culinary scene. We certainly had some delicious food. The COLUMBIA restaurant was delicious, offering Spanish-Cuban cuisine, and serving up delicious family recipes. Another was CATCH 27, where I had my favorite salad on my trip! My eyes first go to the salad section of a menu! Another fabulous restaurant is MICHAEL’S, specializing in steak and seafood. When you go, don’t forget the Truffle Fries with shaved parmesan! Oh my goodness!!!

  3. I have suffered from headaches all my life. I recently started using electrolytes periodically, realizing I was perhaps dehydrated. My headaches have all but disappeared. The electrolyte I discovered is LMNT but probably any will help.

    1. Teri THANK YOU. That was a thought of mine too, because I get dehydrated super easy. I’ve been using NUN tablets in my water when I go to the gym. I think they do help, but not every time. I’ll have to look into LMNT. At this point I’m desperate. I scheduled an MRI this morning. Did you ever get to that point of an MRI? Thank you so much for stopping by and for your input. It means so much to me. Have a wonderful week Teri! XO
