ARE YOU PACKING TOO MUCH FOR VACATION?

are you packing too much for vacation?

We’ve all done it….. packed a suitcase full of “just in case” items, only to wear the same few outfits most of the time. Overpacking makes travel harder, leaves less room for souvenirs, and usually means hauling around things you never use. The hauling around part is the worst! Here are ten things to leave behind when packing for your vacation.

Transfer your favorites into travel-size containers and leave the full-size bottles at home. I still can’t believe how many women take the full-size bottles. And remember that most hotels provide shampoo, conditioner, and lotion.

Unless you have a very specific event, like a wedding, pack comfortable shoes you can actually walk in. A low heel (think kitten heel) or polished sandal is much more practical! Take one pair of sneakers, one low heel, and one other comfortable pair of walking shoes, for example these combinations….

I’m guilty!! You probably….. like me, need five white tops and several pairs of jeans! Just kidding!! You absolutely do not need identical items. Choose versatile pieces that mix and match.

Wear your bulkiest jacket on the plane, and then choose a lightweight layer that folds easily. I discovered when I traveled to Iceland that layers are more effective than I thought. Cashmere is your friend, even in the summer. I LOVE mine and have had my sweaters for so many years I can’t count. You can layer up and take off according to the weather. And the bonus is that layers are more fun and interesting!

Thanks to my pixie, this part is very easy for me. My hair products are sometimes a straightening tool, and my hair paste. Choose one styling tool, and maybe just check that your hotel provides a hair dryer. I love the size of THIS flat iron.

Bring one crossbody style purse and possibly one small evening bag. Neutral colors will work with everything and give you more mileage. THIS ONE has been a lifesaver for me on several of my trips. It’s so easy to pack and weighs hardly anything. I feel like these linked below, can be used day or night.

Depending on where I’m traveling to, this one can be hard for me. Jeans will add bulk and weight to your bag. So try to take just one flattering pair that you love. That will usually be enough. Below are six of my favorites right now that I would consider very versatile.

Of course, vacation is not the time to pack complicated undergarments. A big NO! In addition to choosing easy pieces that work with what you already wear, you’ll probably be saving a lot of money too.

I have a friend that does this, but she also brings an extra suitcase too! I try to bring things that are versatile enough that can elevate an outfit, but then go with a pair of jeans too. Another thing to note: Keep valuable or sentimental jewelry at home. Nobody will ever be able to tell if something is real or fake! I like these pieces below that are all affordable.

As I mentioned earlier, unless you have an event confirmed, leave the formal dress behind. A simple, polished dress can work for dinner and sightseeing, truly it can! My good friend has been traveling through Europe, and had THIS DRESS on for exploring daytime, as well as dressed up dinner. Check out these below, all capable of wearing day or nighttime. You can see in the picture at the top of this blog post, how THIS DRESS can be worn during the day, but with some different accessories and shoes, it would be stunning for nighttime.
