HOW MY STYLE HAS EVOLVED IN MY 60S
Have you changed how you style yourself as you’ve gotten older? I actually like the word EVOLVE better than change. Mine certainly has, but not in a boring way, just in a more thoughtful way. These aren’t rules for anyone else, and if you love wearing something I’ve decided not to wear, then absolutely go for it. You do you, as you should. Whatever makes you feel confident is always the right choice. These are simply the things I personally watch out for now, because I know what makes me feel my best. And that confidence is one of the best things about aging!
I’ve shared this story before, but it had such impact on me. Years ago at a tennis tournament, there was an older woman sitting in our box. She had on the tightest white dress. It showed every curve, every roll….. everything. My first thought was, “I would never wear that.” But at the same time, she completely rocked it because she was so confident. She was beautifully put together and clearly comfortable in her own skin. That was her confidence showing, and I loved that!

BEING MORE AWARE
I’m not dressing by a strict list of rules, but I am much more aware of what feels flattering, comfortable, and like me. For example, I don’t wear super short shorts and skirts anymore…. I’m talking more for tennis, golf, working out, etc. I used to get away with it, and thought they looked better on me because of my height. And back then, they did, but I now go for something a little longer for these activities. Like THIS SKIRT, and THESE SHORTS.
A LITTLE MORE BALANCE
Another thing I pay much more attention to now is not showing too much skin all at once. If I’m wearing something a little shorter, I usually prefer a more covered-up top. And if I’m wearing something with a lower neckline, then I’m very aware of the length, the fit, and how much skin the overall look is showing. For me, it’s about balance more than ever now. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with showing a little skin, but I personally feel classier when the outfit has some restraint. It’s one of those small styling choices that can make a big difference in how I feel when I walk out the door.
Below are a few looks from the archives that prove style doesn’t have to mean showing a lot of skin. Thoughtful, balanced, and tasteful dressing can be just as chic. The middle outfit was from CHICO’S…. I’ve linked a very similar look below.

FIT MATTERS MORE
I’m much more particular about fabrics and fit than I ever used to be. I stay away from anything too clingy, especially pieces that show every little thing I’d rather not highlight. The back bulge situation is real, and tight-fitting tops that call attention to it just don’t make me feel my best. The same goes for pants, Unless they’re leggings, I don’t want them too tight. They’re not only uncomfortable, but on me, they just don’t look good.
COMFORT LOOKS BETTER
High heels are mostly saved for events such as weddings or special occasions now. Even for church, they’re getting more and more uncomfortable. I NEVER thought I’d say that….. but yes, I’m saying it! I do wear them, and I DO LOVE THEM, but I’m very selective on where I wear them. I’m much happier in a kitten heel, a lower block heel, or something two inches or under.
My look below is a great example of how a low heel, can look just as polished….. and they sure do make my feet happier! Shop a similar look with links below.

MAKEUP THAT FEELS LIGHTER
My makeup has become simpler too. I don’t mean leaving it behind completely, and I will always put myself together every day, it’s just quicker these days. As I’ve gotten older, I think less really can be more. A lighter foundation (TINTED MOISTURIZER), possibly this PRIMER-EYE SHADOW, a little BLUSH, MASCARA, EYELINER, and some pretty LIPGLOSS on most days feels like enough. I want my makeup to enhance and brighten me up. I’ve also found that when makeup gets too heavy, it can settle into the fine lines, and make me feel older. I now go for that “glow”. I will always love makeup, but most of the time I want it to be easy, quick, and natural.
AND NOT TO FORGET THE LITTLE THINGS

Posture…… let’s talk about good posture. It can make such a difference and honestly can take years off how we look. The chart above is quite the visual. Another thing I pay attention to are my nails. I keep my manicures fairly conservative and tasteful. If you love the bold colors and bling, go for it! For me, simple just feels more like me. In my 60s, I’m learning that style is LESS about trying harder and MORE about choosing better!

One thing I’ve learned in my 60s is that style doesn’t have to get boring, but it does become more thoughtful.
