Friends….. HAVING REGRETS WHENEVER I CLEAN OUT is inevitable! I’ve recently been cleaning out my closet and becoming familiar with what exactly I have! I can’t believe I’m saying that because I honestly thought I knew what and where everything was! But as I was cleaning out, I was forever saying….. “Ah, I was wondering where this was!” I found all kinds of fun stuff!
This is how I TRY to go about this job….. First of all, as I’m getting new things (and I get a LOT due to my work) I really try to take the SAME number of things away, either by donating or consigning. That way my closet doesn’t get too packed. But I’m super bad at this at times. I tend to NOT clean out until I absolutely have to! My size never changes and so there’s never a reason to get rid of something because it’s too small or too big. But….. I have a lot in my closet that is specific to a certain time of year or event, and like to hang on to them “just in case!” Ugh…. this is where I get in to trouble!
I swear that HAVING REGRETS WHEN I CLEAN OUT always happens to me! SO MANY TIMES, I’ve gotten rid of something only to WISH I STILL HAD IT one week later. The picture of me here, reminded me of this very thing. I had THE CUTEST (and very EXPENSIVE) Ralph Lauren boots that were so similar to these. The only difference was they were a dark brown leather, and not suede. I have wanted those boots back SO MANY TIMES, and I just gave them away several years ago, to some lucky girl!! Ugh!!!
You’ve heard me say before that we wear 20% of our closet 80% of the time! TRUE, right??? I go for the same things over and over…. a lot of athleisure, especially now because I do work at home and I’m not traveling a lot right now. I have those things in my closet that I spent a lot of money for, and are “special” and on and on. Welllllll, they also are clogging up my space! And believe me, they are all throughout my closet!
What I did the other day, was go through ALL MY JEANS! Wo! I didn’t count because I don’t want to know! But…. I tried on every pair almost and got rid of ones that were not flattering anymore, or I haven’t worn for a long time, and a few that were really inexpensive and not good quality. I kept most of them, but then organized in to stacks of SKINNIES, NEWEST, LIGHT WASH, CHICOS, EMBELLISHED, AND COLORED. All my wide leg I hung, the rest I folded in baskets.
As I switch out from summer to fall, I go through and clean out the same way. I know that you should get rid of things you haven’t worn in a year, but I’m not anywhere near that…… because like I said, I KNOW THAT I’LL REGRET GIVING IT AWAY AND I’LL NEED IT AS SOON AS IT’S GONE! I swear…. it happens SO MUCH to me! I think that’s why it’s so hard for me to give things away!!!

And just a side-note on the picture of my closet below…. NOT BIG at all! But…. I have two other full-size closets in the other two bedrooms of our home! Yep…. the “seasonal” closets!!
One thing though that I always try and keep in mind, is that when I’m giving it away or even consigning, I’m helping someone else out! I’ve just packed a box full of things to be sold on Poshmark. I’ve never used this platform before, and I won’t be handling it, my assistant will. Let me know if you’ve used Poshmark and if you like it or not! In the meantime….. I’m feeling very liberated that I’ve finally CLEANED OUT, and having regrets whenever I clean out, is becoming less and less the more I purge!
Happy Day Friends!

I adore you but have had my heart broken so much, I honestly dont think I can follow you any longer…. Jackie, I struggle with this as well esp since the effect of the Pandemic on our business and income!
Just a few suggestions that are similar but less pricey would encourage me so much!!
I love this blog and its positivity and joy!!!…
THANK YOU Phyllis!!! I’ll make more of an effort for everyone!!!!! XOXO
Hi Jackie….. thank you for stopping by. I appreciate and totally get your comment! I used to be better about linking up less expensive options. But…. those aren’t getting any attention and so I have gone back to linking up others. I’m affiliated with RewardStyle which gives me a small commission of what I sell. Those less expensive links weren’t being shopped. I have always used Target and continue to find great things there. But, I will begin thinking again how I can provide you with more budget-friendly looks! Take care Jackie! XO
At least change to the same kind of hangers in your main closet. It makes such a difference !
Luann….. it’ll be one of those things that I totally don’t get now, but will wonder why I didn’t do it sooner once I DO IT! LOL! xo
You are so darn adorable!! Closet looks good to me!! Have gotten so many ideas from you! And the sweet way you communicate is refreshing and inspiring. Thank you for being you. Kind, sweet, beautiful and real. May this year be better than ever with your handsome husband and all you share with us!
YES! Get the hangars. They come in so many fun colors!! I have all my black dresses on red hangars, white shirts on turquoise. It makes my closet colorful and a lot more organized.
Hey Shauna. When cleaned out my closet and got all new thinner hangers, it gave to much more space and it looks so much nicer. You can get the ones that won’t leave those pesky poke marks. I got mine at BedBathBeyond. They are a small investment :/
Good luck
Thank you Pamela…. I guess I’m destined to get me some hangers!!!!! Thank you so much for stopping by!!!!! XO
I have use Poshmark and enjoy the platform. Sometimes I have things that do not sell and after two months I donate them. Good luck on the clean out and thanks for the inspiration.
THANK YOU Sharon…. we are on our way with POSHMARK!!!! Take care! XO
Your closet looks awesome. It’s hard to tackle a closet. I start off soo decisive, but it doesn’t take long before the “well, I don’t know, I may wear this again” thinking starts to settle in. As for Poshmark…love it. I bet you can find those Ralph Lauren boots your missing so much, on Poshmark 😉
Cheryll I didn’t think of that! My boots are seriously probably on there! What helps me the most though, is knowing I’m helping someone else, or giving them more JOY out of something than what I have gotten. My daughter-in-law is the perfect example. I can’t tell you how excited she gets when I give her something!!!!! XO
I have to laugh…At first when I saw the pic of the closet I couldn’t imagine that was it for I’m not a fashion icon but mine is bigger and more full. But to read that there are two more….I don’t have other closets but a few totes for seasonal stuff. Use what you have 😉
I bought my flocked hangers from Costco and absolutely love them – about $25 a box for 100 hangers. I think I’m up to 3-4 boxes by now. Definitely worth the money.
I have to agree with some of the gals about the price of the clothing. As a single mom there is no way I could afford the prices but I definitely take the idea and find stuff other places. I am a huge resale shopper so keep consigning and donating 😁
As of the 9th of Oct, I am officially a member of the 50’s club. Thanks for all the inspiration!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Charlotte!!!!!! Welcome, but I’m a decade past you! Yep my closet isn’t anywhere what it used to be! It used to look just like a small boutique!!! But this is now and it’s organized and just missing matching hangers!!!!!!!!!!!! Take care! XO
I have to agree with Charlotte as I bought my flocked hangers at Costco and they save a lot of room in the closet as they are slimmer than the plastic ones. It also makes the closet look neater 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for a fun and inspirational blog that I always look forward to reading!
THANK YOU Ruth!!!! I need to start shopping for matching hangers!!!!!!! Take care and HAPPY NOVEMBER! XO
Hi Shauna, I’ve got the same regrets, but I think by boxing the items you want to get rid of & storing them out of sight, I usually do that for approximately 5-6 mos. if I don’t look for it before then away they go😉
Oh every time I donate something I haven’t worn in years, I will get something and yep, that donated item would just be perfect with it! Ugh! I swear it is mind over matter, my mind knows it is gone so now it matters. Ditto on the hangers, I never saw the need until I got them. You can fit more clothes in the closet and you can even get hooks so you can cascade blouses giving you vertical storage too. I just do a different color in each closet because I like the look of all one color but to each her own!
