FIVE WAYS TO FEEL FABULOUS

Feeling fabulous after fifty isn’t about chasing youth….. it’s about nurturing the habits that help you feel confident and energized. Since turning sixty (now I’m sixty-five), I’ve noticed it takes so much more intention to feel like I used to. There are definitely more tired days, a few more aches, and moments when my daddy’s saying, “Getting old isn’t for sissies”, rings truer than ever!

But here’s what I’ve learned….. small, consistent choices truly make a difference. I’m especially mindful of this, now that we’re in the holiday season. When I take care of myself in simple, sustainable ways, I feel stronger, happier, and more grounded. These are the FIVE WELLNESS HABITS that help me feel my best, no matter my age!

I start every morning with two full glasses of water, and during my workout I finish another bottle. That means I’ve already had about 4-5 servings before my first meal. It’s such an easy way to stay on track for my eight glasses a day. Hydration truly makes a difference…. my skin looks healthier, my digestion is better, and I feel more energized.

Sleep hasn’t always been something I thought about, in terms of hours per night. But it’s the most underrated beauty and wellness tool. Create a calming bedtime ritual, turn off your screens, possibly some herbal tea, and unwind with a good book. Fortunately I’ve always been very lucky in this department, and did you know that exercising daily will actually help you sleep better?

I focus on whole, clean, and colorful foods…. fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats. For me this is lots of berries, nuts, veggies, whole grains, fiber, and low sugar. Real food fuels energy and supports hormone balance, and helps me feel fabulous from the inside out. Find ways to substitute the unhealthy things in your diet with healthier choices. It has to be a lifestyle! I do have my splurges, but I choose them very carefully.

Big or small, finishing a task brings purpose and satisfaction. During busy seasons, I make it a point to do something each day….. even if it’s just reading a few pages in a book I’ve been trying to get through, organizing a drawer, or checking one small thing off my list. I DO keep a list and DO love the feeling of crossing things off. Those little wins add up, and that sense of accomplishment truly does help me enjoy the season more.

Remember, that feeling fabulous is all about progress, not perfection. When we care for ourselves with intention and grace, everything else…… our energy, mood, and overall well-being, falls beautifully into place. I swear by these five things. They have helped me all these years, and I’m not about to change anything up!
