CONSISTENCY THROUGH HOLIDAY CHAOS

CONSISTENCY THROUGH HOLIDAY CHAOS

I shared this message in my newsletter this past Sunday, and it resonated so strongly that I felt it deserved its own blog post. As the pace of the season picks up, the reminder felt especially important…. not just for my readers, but for myself! So today, I’m expanding on that message in hopes that it offers you a moment of grounding and encouragement.

The picture above takes me back a few years ago. What I love most is the simple joy of being lifted into my husband’s arms. It reminds me of one of our very first dates actually, and how important moments like this are! There’s no question, they happen by making small daily choices to stay connected and present to those around you.

This time of year has a way of sweeping us up in nonstop motion. Deadlines, holiday gatherings, rising expectations, and that constant sense of “more to do”, is overwhelming. I don’t know about you, but I’ve finally learned at 65, that it’s impossible to keep up. In the hectic rush, it’s the small habits we’ve worked hard to build…. habits that support our well-being, are often the first things to slide. It’s easy to reassure ourselves that the little things can wait. After all, what difference could one missed walk, one shortened night’s sleep, one skipped nourishing meal, or one overlooked check-in with someone we love really make? It’s these thoughts that can literally make us/me crazy! I want to do it all, and too often I want to do it all… perfectly.

However, the truth is, those “small” moments are anything but small. They are the quiet investments that keep us grounded, energized, and connected! Especially when life feels chaotic!

These kinds of “help books” are powerful tools when you’re working to establish and maintain good habits. What I love about ressource books like THE WEEKLY HABITS PROJECT is that they break things down into simple, doable steps… tiny changes that don’t overwhelm you but instead build momentum. They encourage you to reflect, and actually see the progress you’re making. This is super motivating, and they help you stay accountable, and inspired!

Persistence doesn’t always appear bold or dramatic. More often, it looks like imperfect baby steps…… a ten-minute walk, a glass of water (this can make me feel so much better), or turning off the lights and going to bed five minutes earlier. And what about that quick text to someone that’s been on our mind? These tiny acts may seem insignificant in the moment, but they compound over time into strength, clarity, and resilience. During the busiest season, our consistency becomes not just a habit, but a meaningful gift we give ourselves. This shift in thinking has helped me tremendously!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember this…. the small things truly are the big things. Choose one or two tiny steps you can commit to, even on your busiest days. Let them serve as gentle reminders that progress doesn’t require perfection. It only requires PRESENCE!

Little by little, these simple choices shape how we rest, move, nourish ourselves, and care for the people around us. And in the long run, that can make all the difference…. and it does!
