WHAT I PACKED FOR MEXICO ~ WHAT I LOVED & WHAT I WISH I’D BROUGHT
After spending five days in beautiful Baja Mexico, I learned (I always do on these trips!) a few things about what to bring next time. Even though I tried to be thoughtful about everything I brought, there were definitely some pieces that worked OVERTIME, along with a few things I really wish I’d tucked into my suitcase.

So here’s my quick little travel recap of what worked and what I’ll never leave home next time!
WHAT I PACKED AND LOVED!
FREE PEOPLE SLIP SKIRT ~ Such an easy piece to dress up or down, and it was so comfortable! I love packing things that can be worn multiple ways…. I’m such a believer of that, and this one was absolutely perfect. Can you wear this in the winter months? YES and YES!
WEAR IT LIKE THIS FOR FALL…
SKIRT ~ SWEATER ~ BOOTIES ~ SCARF ~ BAG
BIRKENSTOCK SANDALS ~ These went everywhere with me. On the beach, to a quick dinner, through the house, and in the airport. Nothing is easier to slip on and off. What about cooler temps? They will absolutely work….. and are quite cute with fun socks! Try it, you’ll LOVE it!
WEAR THEM LIKE THIS IN COOLER TEMPS…
BIRKENSTOCKS ~ JEANS ~ SWEATER ~ SOCKS ~ BELT
WHITE TANK TOP ~ I wish I would have had more of these. This would be considered the same for a white tee shirt. You can’t ever go wrong with the simplest basics. I was pulling it out for everything. I’ve linked some favorites below.
FREE PEOPLE ~ VUORI ~ JCREW ~ CHICOS ~ EVEREVE
LIGHTWEIGHT SWEATER ~ No matter where you’re traveling or what season it is, a lightweight sweater is ALWAYS an essential! In fact, I can’t imagine traveling without one. Throughout my trip, I had it draped over my shoulders, then on, then tied around my waist, and eventually back in my bag. Over and over again! Not only is it cozy and warm, but it’s stylish too, and this one definitely worked OVERTIME for me! So, when packing for your next getaway, choose a color that coordinates with everything else in your suitcase. That way, you’ll get even more wear out of it!
GRAY ~ PINK ~ GREEN ~ YELLOW ~ ORANGE
DENIM SHORTS ~ I know most of us aren’t reaching for denim shorts this time of year, but for my getaway, THEY WORKED JUST LIKE MY FAVORITE PAIR OF JEANS! THEY GO WITH everything! In fact, my white denim shorts may have been the most-worn piece I packed. Whether I was throwing them on over my swimsuit or pairing them with one of my colorful tops, they were SO easy to style. Plus, they’re comfortable, versatile, and go with practically anything. So, just like a great pair of jeans, they’re always a good idea to pack! And since most of us are dressing for cooler weather right now, I’ve linked some of my favorite comfy jeans below that would be perfect for traveling!
FREE PEOPLE ~ ANTHROPOLOGIE ~ ANTHROPOLOGIE ~ FREE PEOPLE ~ AMAZON
WHAT I WISH I’D PACKED
TRIPOD ~ I brought a small tripod but realized on this trip I could use something bigger. THIS is lightweight and easy to pack. I’ve ordered it and can’t wait to bring it next time.
PURSE ORGANIZER ~ My carry-on bag could have used some serious organization! A removable insert would have made finding all my little essentials so much easier!
TRAVEL BLANKET ~ I always take my MINKY travel blanket, but this time I left it behind. I won’t ever make that mistake again. Airplanes can get SO COLD! A lightweight and packable blanket will never be left at home again!
SUNGLASSES ORGANIZER ~ I brought four pairs, and a proper travel case would have kept them protected better.
LIGHTWEIGHT STANLEY ~ I’m a bit of a fanatic when it comes to my water in-take. I left my Stanley at home because it’s on the heavy side. I found this one that’s slimmer and lighter and will definitely go with me next trip!
NOTES FOR NEXT TRIP!
Packing smarter doesn’t necessarily mean packing less. Instead, it’s about choosing pieces that really work for YOU! And after this trip, I’ve definitely learned a thing or two about what deserves a spot in my suitcase. Not only did some of my favorite pieces work overtime, but I also discovered a few things I wish I’d brought along. So, with that in mind, I’ve already got some new additions to my travel essentials list. After all, every trip teaches us something, right?
