WHAT’S TRENDING IN DENIM FOR FALL 2026
We’ve already talked a lot about denim for fall, especially the return of those deeper, darker washes I love so much. But this time, I wanted to hone in on what’s happening beyond the color of our jeans. Certainly, every season brings a few fresh ideas, and Fall 2026 has some really good ones. From new silhouettes and updated fits to embellishments, hems, and fresh ways to wear denim, there’s a lot changing this season. So if you’re wondering which denim STYLES are worth trying…. this is where we’re taking a closer look.
STRAIGHTER, SLIMMER SHAPES ARE RETURNING
After several seasons of really oversized jeans, denim is starting to slim down a bit. Straight-let styles are everywhere, along with cigarette and stovepipe shapes that sit closer to the body without feeling like the super-skinny jeans we wore years ago. If I’m being honest….. this is NOT my favorite look, except when I’m wearing them with tall boots.
BOOTCUTS AND FLARES ARE STRONG
This one makes me happy! Bootcut jeans are everywhere right now, especially with higher rises and a cleaner more polished fit. And of course, I’ll always love a good flare… possibly my favorite. For me, adding a pointed shoe or a little heel underneath either of these styles (example: my look below), is such an easy way to create a longer-looking silhouette…. which is always a plus when you’re petite!

RELAXED DENIM ISN’T GOING AWAY
Don’t put away your wide-leg and relaxed jeans just yet! They’re still very much around, but the shapes are becoming a little less extreme. A perfect example is my outfit below. The softer slouch, curved legs, trouser-inspired styles, and jeans that feel relaxed without completely overwhelming you, are what I’m seeing more of. It’s all about getting the proportions right.

FUN DETAILS ALWAYS CATCH MY EYE
This might be my favorite part about denim…. any time of the year. Interesting details like stenciling, cutouts, patches, rhinestones, studs, and embellishments are giving basic jeans so much personality. I love that you can wear a simple tee and let the denim do all the work!
COLOR IS MIXING THINGS UP
Blue certainly isn’t our only option this season. Brown, khaki, red, cobalt, and even pink denim are popping up this fall. Colored denim is such a fun way to make your jeans the statement piece while keeping everything else simple….. and that’s exactly how I would style them.
AND IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT JEANS
Denim skirts, dresses, jackets of course, and head-to-toe denim looks are all part of the story too. There really isn’t just ONE denim trend to follow this fall, and I love that. Just as I would tell anyone…… pick the ideas that work for you!
