4th OF JULY OUTFITS THAT ARE FESTIVE, COMFY, & CHIC

I recently shared some red, white, and blue summer outfit ideas from Chico’s, HERE, as well as a similar idea for Memorial Day, HERE. But with the 4th of July coming up, I wanted to talk a bit more specifically about dressing for the actual holiday. Because depending on your plans, the day can include a little bit of everything….. sunrise breakfast, a parade, a family barbecue, an afternoon by the pool, and of course fireworks later that night.

For me, the goal is to look festive…. I mean I want to get into the spirit of it all, but I don’t want to look too gimmicky. I want to feel comfortable and most importantly like myself.

The best 4th of July outfit really depends on where you’re going. If you’ll be outside most of the day, lightweight fabrics are so important. Linen, cotton, lightweight denim, and easy knits are all great choices. I also think shoes matter more than we sometimes give credit. Cute sandals, sneakers, or a comfy low wedge can make all the difference in how you are experiencing your celebration. Will you be standing (think parade), walking (think hike), or running (chasing grandkids)? I like the third one the best!!

Of course you don’t have to wear stars and stripes from head to toe to look patriotic. But as I always point out…. if that’s your vibe then do it! But a white jean with a navy top, or maybe a denim dress with red sandals, or a striped tee with cropped pants can feel just right. Even one little pop of red, white, or blue can make the whole outfit spirited…. is that a word? These three looks below are perfectly NOT overdone but still festive….

If your plans include fireworks, bring a light layer. A linen shirt, lightweight cardigan, even a denim jacket. Depending on where you live, evenings will probably cool down and there’s nothing worse than being too cold.

Certainly the best 4th of July looks should be simple, comfy, and a little bit celebratory. And the bonus is that these pieces can be worn all summer….. long after the fireworks are over!
