CAPSULE WARDROBE PACKING IDEAS FOR VACATION TRAVEL ~ 4 FABULOUS CAPSULES
Vacation season is officially here, and if you’re anything like me, you want to look stylish without dragging around a giant suitcase. I have been know to do exactly that!! However, in my experience, I’ve come to appreciate a lighter suitcase…… and lighter doesn’t mean sacrificing outfit options. In fact, a simple capsule wardrobe can make getting dressed on vacation more fun, and so much less stressful! I should note too: I love putting outfits together, so this post was really fun for me.
One thing I love about a visual capsule wardrobe is seeing how everything works together before I ever leave home. I always try everything on before I actually leave, but this will help you in planning so you can see the options and ideas and how every piece coordinates. There’s no second-guessing what to wear each morning. You simply grab an outfit and you’re ready to enjoy your trip!
WEEKEND GETAWAY CAPSULE

This weekend capsule consists of 3 tops, 3 bottoms, and 3 pairs of shoes. It’s the perfect example of how simple packing can still give you plenty of outfit options. When you’re packing light, the key is choosing pieces that can easily mix and match with each other, and every single piece here does. The tops work with each bottom, the shoes give you both comfort and a little fun, and the whole collection feels easy. I’d add a few fun accessories…. maybe a hat, scarf, sunnies, and some simple jewelry. This will make each outfit feel a little different without adding much bulk to your bag. These are all so good…. that they’re in my closet!
TROPICAL RESORT CAPSULE

This tropical resort beach capsule is all about easy pieces that feel bright, fun, and of course beachy. When you’re packing for a warm-weather trip, you’re aiming for versatility. The skirt and sarong can be worn to dinner… just dress them up with some bling, and a cute handbag. And remember how your accessories will change the look immediately. I’ve just chosen flat comfy shoes, because that’s the smartest on this kind of a vacay. In times past when I’ve taken heels….. I very rarely wear them. A tropical beach trip is meant for slowing down, so this is not the time to overpack or overcomplicate things. Keep it simple, easy, and relaxed.
ROADTRIP CAPSULE

For a road trip capsule, comfort is key, but I still want to look like I put a little thought into what I’m wearing. Every item is soft, relaxed, and simple to wear for long days in the car, quick stops, casual dinners, and all the exploring along the way. I included a couple of lightweight sweaters for layering, two pairs of comfy shoes, and easy bottoms that can be mixed and matched. The two sets are especially versatile because they can be worn together or broken up and styled with all the different tops. This gives you the versatility and options while still keeping things light.
EUROPEAN VACATION CAPSULE

A European vacay capsule is about finding that sweet spot between polished and practical. These are the trips where you’re doing a lot of walking, sightseeing, popping in and out of museums and churches, and wandering charming streets. Since the weather can change quickly, think layers. Also comfy but cute walking shoes, lightweight jackets, versatile pants and skirts, and breathable and uncomplicated tops are essential. The goal is to have that effortless-vibe that will let you enjoy every beautiful moment of your trip. This capsule includes a few more pieces than normal, since a European vacation is usually a longer trip.
THE ESSENTIALS I’D ADD TO ANY CAPSULE
To make any of these capsules more complete, I would add hats, scarves, jewelry, sunglasses, functional and lightweight bags. These additions take up very little room in your suitcase, but dramatically increase the number of outfit possibilities.
PACK LESS, ENJOY MORE
Sometimes the easiest way to pack smarter is simply seeing it laid out visually…. and that’s what this blog is for. When you can see how everything works together, packing becomes much easier. And not only that, but getting dressed on vacation becomes fun. With a thoughtful planned capsule wardrobe, you can fit everything into a small suitcase or carry-on while still having plenty of fabulous options for every day of your trip.
