THE ART OF LETTING GO

The Art of Letting Go

There comes a point when holding onto pieces that no longer fit (physically or stylistically)….. starts to weigh you down. Maybe it’s something you’ve had for years, or something you wish still worked. But style evolves, just as we do. Letting go isn’t always easy…. but it’s necessary. And over time, I’m realizing this more and more.

I just took sacks and sacks of clothes out of my closet, to my second-hand store. These were pieces that no longer serve me, no longer fit my life, or simply don’t feel like me anymore. I’ve always been pretty good at editing my wardrobe and letting go of what I know I won’t wear. But if I’m honest, there’s a certain category that’s much harder to part with…. anything expensive, designer, or tied to a memory. Those are the pieces that tend to linger a little longer, tucked in the back, justified by what they cost or what they meant at one time. And yet, even those deserve an honest look. Keeping something out of guilt, rather than joy or purpose, only adds to the clutter…. both in your closet and in your mind.

THIS BOOK WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO START

Letting go of those items creates space. Space for pieces that feel current, comfortable, and truly reflective of who you are today. Not who you were 10 or 20 years ago. I’ll admit, this is really hard, but I LOVE the feeling of liberation!

The same mindset applies beyond your closet. Unquestionably, we all carry habits, expectations, and even relationships that no longer align with where we are. There’s so much freedom in recognizing that you don’t have to keep everything. You are allowed to outgrow things. You’re allowed to choose differently. I think this is one of the beautiful parts of growing older. Letting go doesn’t mean loss…. it often means growth.

What replaces what you are getting rid of really matters. In style, it’s about choosing pieces that feel effortless, flattering, and authentic. In life, it’s about choosing what brings peace and purpose. You’ll find that it’s incredibly liberating, the editing, refining, and intentional mindset. The goal isn’t to have more…. it’s to have what fits.

When you let go of what no longer serves you, you don’t end up with less…. you end up with clarity. You will clearly start to see what you truly love, what feels like you, and most importantly, reach for pieces without overthinking it. Indeed for me, these are the looks I come back to again and again…

And finally….. I would LOVE to know how you do this in your lives. What works, and what doesn’t? I’d like to think I’m getting better at this, but certainly always learning. Remember that word HARMONY? Unlike balance, this is a healthier approach in your day-to-day living. The idea of LETTING GO… has been especially instrumental in helping me live a more harmonious life!
