My Workouts Are Saving Me

My Yoga Practice…. the Crow!

Hey friends….. how are all YOU doing? Just want to say that MY WORKOUTS ARE SAVING ME….. literally! I’ve talked a bit about this on my Instagram stories, but really felt like a blog about this would be helpful. I feel SO STRONGLY that working out, MOVING, being active is absolutely VITAL for your overall health and well-being. To me it’s a NO BRAINER!

Since the Coronavirus, I haven’t been to the gym. Even before it was closed I didn’t go so I could contribute in a positive way. It was SO HARD FOR ME NOT TO GO. I was tempted numerous times to just slip in for an hour and quickly leave. I would wipe down my machine thoroughly before getting on, and the same afterwards. I wouldn’t talk to anyone. I was going to do my stretching out back at home. But I knew it was the wrong thing to do.

So I reverted to getting my workout done outside. I would go out for an hour to an hour and a half. I clocked it on my car and it was just over five miles. I did a combination of power walking, lunges, jump squats, and jogging. I’ve mentioned before that I have titanium implants in my feet and so have to be extremely careful with high-impact exercising like running outside on the pavement!

I would come home with super sore feet and feel like I hadn’t even worked out that hard. You have to understand that I’ve been working out HARD since I was a teenager, so for me I have to sweat a LOT and if I don’t, it doesn’t feel like ENOUGH! I was feeling VERY VERY FRUSTRATED TO SAY THE LEAST! One night I even went out before bed and ran for another thirty minutes, even though I had worked out that morning.

So one day I decided to go over to my local sporting goods store DICKS, and see what they had in the way of gym equipment. I was hoping to find something STURDY, EFFECTIVE, LOW-IMPACT, and GOOD QUALITY! I had never used BOWFLEX before. I have always used PRECOR and LIFEFITNESS home gym equipment, which by the way are super expensive! I found exactly what I had hoped for!

I CAN’T SAY ENOUGH…… I AM SO HAPPY WITH MY INVESTMENT of my Bowflex! It is everything to me to be able to get as hard a workout in as I want. It’s smooth and easy on my feet. It feels super solid and stable. I absolutely LOVE it. My workouts are saving me! It truly has given me my sanity back! I’m much happier, which during this time in our world, is just as important as ANYTHING ELSE!

Just wanted to share this with you. If you don’t have equipment at home, and are able to invest in something without a huge expense, I would highly recommend this machine! If not, then there are all levels of home workouts online. If you are outside, mix in squats and lunges which will not only work different muscles, but get your heart rate up! If you are able to run for your whole workout, more power to you!

The MOST IMPORTANT THING though….. is TO KEEP MOVING! Try to NOT be IDLE. It’s not good for you physically or mentally! MOVE YOUR BODIES!!!!! My workouts are SAVING ME and I know if you keep moving they will save you too!

WHAT TO WEAR~

  1. Hi Shauna,
Working out is an essential part of my day like you. Thank goodness we have a small gym at home that allows my husband and I to continue moving . In times like these, it is critical for our sanity. Happy Birthday to you !

    1. Francine….. an ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL part for sure, I agree. And thank you for your birthday wishes!!!! XO

  2. Hi Shauna,
I just found you…I’m thrilled! My name is Kim and I am a 52 “newlywed.” I married the LOML (and my sons Boy Scout leader lol. This is a crazy time for sure…thank you for being REAL and transparent. My pilates studio closed so (as you already stated) finding schedule during this crazy time is essential. I am in healthcare, so I have to keep working, probably stressing me out more than anything. I am doing Pilates and Barre ON DEMAND, and I joined a 30 day challenge. I love your look (and the short hair), and I look forward to more! Cheers! Kimberly

  3. Hi Shauna. I have never followed anyone before but I can totally relate to your posts. I am 63 and recently retired. I love being active and staying busy with a part-time job. Working out has always been a part of my life from early on as a teen. I am thankful I can still do some of the things I really enjoy, even if I have had to modify them to fit my abilities at this point in my life. You are right, we have to stay moving!
